12.16.05

Well, my proudest thing to report is that i've been working my butt off trying to finish baby sister's blankie that i started knitting like SIX MONTHS ago, and i think i should finish it before she arrives! YAY!

Maegan is doing super. She is soooooo very happy to have her "Beema Happy" (aka Grandma Kathy) back home! I think she's trying to make Grandma returning to Florida a very hard thing to do! She's so very excited for Christmas and specifically to open presents. She keeps going into my room (where the stash is) and looking at all the presents and then we just talk about them. "Open pwesents? Pwesents? Mommy open pwesents?" :) She's very good about leaving them alone, wish I could say the same for the Christmas tree that she knocked over on Tuesday :/
Today we are going to Jungle Bungle with Shawna and Gracie! That should be fun. Mae was talking about their ball pit all last night so i know she's excited.
Baby sister is doing great! She's still moving around enough but I can tell she's getting bigger and has a hard time moving as much as she used to. She doesn't feel that big to me and i'm going to guess that she will be right around 8 lbs at birth. I so want another big, healthy baby so I hope she's at least that big! I don't know what I'd do with a teeny little one.
Kelly (rick's finacee) is probably going to be induced next week if she doesn't pop any sooner! She is measuring 3 weeks ahead of what she actually is, so Mr. Drew is getting really big and they think she needs to get him out before he's TOO big! lol I'm so excited to meet my first nephew!!! And to snuggle with a newborn, before my own arrives!

12.7.05

oh boy. Not feeling very creative or wordy today so this may be a very dull blog entry. First things first- my back is killing me! Killing me!! I can barely walk today. So that makes a day at home with a 2 year old....interesting. I'm lucky Maegan is so independent, though, because really it doesn't seem to bother her that I don't move much and that she's been playing by herself a lot today. There's not much I can do with her from the couch or chair, but she's a trooper. I'm trying hard to not feel guilty as she sits downstairs watching Buzz and Woody. She walked all the way up here just to ask for them :)
We've had a great week so far! Monday we stayed home and accomplished things around the house. I don't remember what, but it felt good to accomplish those things. Monday night we made a gingerbread house! Neither Ryan, Maegan or I had ever done it before so it was a first for all of us. Maegan ate the whole time, i kid you not. She had no part in decorating! She just sat there and munched on candy as ryan and i made the house.

Yesterday Maegan made a construction paper candy cane at school and spent a lot of time with her new toys she got at Great Grandma Shimp's Christmas. She got the Weebly Wobbly tree house and an Aquadoodle mat, and she LOVES them both. She loves the treehouse for playing by herself, and loves the mat for playing with Mommy and Daddy. She asks us to draw shapes, letters, and her name. She can now recognize Maegan, Mommy, Daddy and I think she can recognize Dolan. I'll have to double check that one later.
We had a quiet night at home last night and Maegan went to bed early because she had a short nap. She's sleeping so wonderfully these days- down at 8:30-9:30 and up at 7:30-8. It's so nice!

I am 35 weeks pregnant now, only 4 weeks to go (from yesterday!) Here's the baby:
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
I'm popping out there a bit more now! She's still doing great, and nothing new to report! Oh wait- i have a new stretchmark. I totally jinxed myself last weekend by telling Ryan I had not gotten any yet, and i literally looked down and there it was. It's small, but it's there. I can't complain, though, as all of mine from maegan have faded so that only I can see them, so i will just hope this one does the same.

Oh! Last night I took some pics of Maegan, and this one turned out cute. Definitely captures her "Maegan-ness."

I cannot get the girl to give a decent smile lately. They are all growly-type smiles, or super duper huge cheezy smiles. Oh well, that's my maegan.

12.2.05

maegan knocked on her door this morning so i walked down the hall to let her out. Her hands were full; she was carrying horsey and Nemo, which is nothing unusual. She grunts and groans as she hauls them to the couch, where she dumps them and I realize she's also carrying a spoon, and has a sock on each of her hands :)
here, let me impress you with one more amazing thing- she now says "no, thank you!" and "excuse me!" when she burps or farts! I give ryan complete credit for the "no, thank you" and I take complete credit for "excuse me."
Miss Dolan exhibited her independence at the mall today when she threw a horrid tantrum at JC Penney's because i wasn't giving her enough options- she wanted to walk and hold my hand instead of ride in the stroller or wear her bracelet (aka kid leash.) I've been trying to discourage her walking on her own, because I'm not sure how that will work when baby sister comes, but maybe i need to relax a little bit. She actually does pretty well when she just walks near the stroller, I guess I'm just a little paranoid that she'll just take off. Which she probably won't. But you never know, right?! I guess I need to think about this, and talk to Ryan. His opinion counts too. :)
The c-section is one month from tomorrow! WHOA. My mom mentioned today how fast this pregnancy has gone...you're telling me! And I don't even feel overwhelmed or anything in things to do before she comes, it's just really gone that fast. Wonder what pregnancy #3 will be like! lol

11.30.05 but very close to 12.1.05

some random maegan tidbits, since mommy has nothing better to do and daddy is at a hawks game.

1. Maegan holds "class" in the hallway now with two of our holiday snowmen. She puts them against the wall, tells them to SIT, and then lays down in front of them and chats away. If I come across her doing this, or God forbid try to participate, i get "MOMMY WEAVE!" (weave=leave)
2. She has a carrying case full of little mr. potato head and his parts. little mr. potato head doesn't have seperate eyes/nose/mouth, rather it's all one piece. She has 3 of these pieces- the one with the big eyes and full red lips is "mommy's moops," the one with the moustache is "daddy's moops" and the plain one is "mae mae's moops." We're pretty sure moops means lips. She makes us wear them, and yells at us if we take them out. Only she can determine when they come out.
3. Maegan can hold a full conversation while holding a sippy cup in her teeth, no hands.
4. She lost the baby Jesus. She keeps telling us he's in the couch, but we can't find him. Maybe he'll come back at Easter?
5. She bit me today, on the arm. She's bitten me before, but never gotten skin. I spanked her on the butt, knee-jerk reaction. Then we sat on the couch and were sad together.
6. a frequent conversation maegan and i have: "Daddy at work. Beema in the grey van. Red and blue, see the clock. Daddy's nana all gone." these are all things associated with us visiting ryan at work, which we do nearly every day. She's gotten into a sort of rut- we walk in, she asks ryan if she can eat the banana he brings with him every day. she eats half of it. After that, she goes up to the front and gets the two dice (red and blue) that are in the front desk for some reason. She puts them on a chair and spins the chair round and round. She counts the numbers on the clock, and talks to "beema in the grey van," who is my stepmom.
7. She can climb into baby sister's crib, and can jump in it. I know, no surprise there. Still caught me off guard the first time i caught her doing this.
8. she calls santa "tee-ha"
9. She knows 12/14 shapes. She knows: circle, square, rectangle, triangle, heart, cloud, sun, moon, star, hexagon, diamond, oval. We're working on pentagon and trapezoid. Rectangle is kind of iffy for her, she gets it when i draw it one way, but not another. That darn tricky rectangle, changing shapes and all.
10. She now sleeps in her bed, with a nightlight, door closed, for the entire night. It's an amazing thing! Just in time for her sister to come, for me to enjoy sleep for exactly one month before our world is flipped upside down again :)

ok, how about some pictures?
2 years ago, maegan had just gotten her first tooth. (i have a bunch of pics of me prying her mouth open to show off the tooth, but this one looks a lot nicer.) She was 4.5 months old!
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
1 year ago I attempted to take her picture for our Christmas card. I remember this day VERY clearly...let's just say that I'm scarred for life! Never again will i work so hard to get a nice picture of a one year old. I'll send a picture of her sleeping, and people will understand.

Alright, enough tidbits for now. G'night!

11.30.05

Maegan and Mommy's morning conversation:

(bang bang bang, maegan's awake and is letting mommy know she needs her help getting the door open.)
Mommy: good morning maegan!
Maegan: (big smile) mmmmmwah! (kisses mommy) berry milk? berry milk? on the parpet?
Mommy: I'm sorry sweetie, we are all out of berry milk.
Maegan: More chockie milk? more? daddy more chockie milk? on the parpet. chockie milk on the parpet.
Mommy: Sure, you can have some chocolate milk on the carpet.
Maegan: (pats chest) buns! buns!
Mommy: Sweetie, those are your boobies.
Maegan: BOOBIES! (huge smile) BOOBIES!!!
Mommy: (uncontrollable laughter) Yes, boobies. Now let's go get your milk.

She's very interested in boobies these days. She started calling them 'buns' which i find interesting, so I gave her some more correct terms ;) Hers are boobies, mine are breasts, and daddy has a chest.

Maegan calls this, and in a very demanding tone, "FINGERS GO SWIMMIN' IN THE WATER!"

And how she helped us decorate the tree. (Her specialty is actually un-decorating the tree.)
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Other than a teeny tiny little cold that she has, we are doing great here. Baby sister comes in 34 days which makes mommy very happy! Oh, and it's the Christmas season so another thing to make us all very happy! Such a great time of year to be pregnant. :)

Happy Thanksgiving!
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
We had a very nice holiday. We spent the day doing fun stuff around the house, which involved crossing one big task off of mommy's "must do before baby sister arrives" checklist- cleaning the ceiling fans! Maegan and Daddy were a big help, and then Maegan continued to clean other things, like her pink clock :)
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
We spent the evening at Grandma and Grandpa Eller's house, which Maegan enjoyed. She feels pretty comfortable there now, which is a relief. She actually spent a lot of time upstairs, when Ryan and I were downstairs for the most part.
Maegan's talking is growing tremendously every day it seems. This morning she had her fingers in her hair and told us that her fingers were swinging in her hair! She loves all the new Christmas deco that I've put out, especially all the snowmen and the beaded berries that are the centerpiece on the table. Last night she kissed the two snowmen, the snowmen rug, the jingle bells and the berries before she went night night.
We went to the Mongolian grill for dinner last night with kelly and lisa, and ellie and maegan were not being very good; banging on the table, yelling, etc. A couple of stinkers. After that we went to Toys R Us and bought maegan's Christmas presents! She's getting a few things to go with her kitchen.
Breakfast time! I'll write more later :)

11.19.05

maegan's napping, so time for an update and that is the very thing i want to update on anyway- her sleep! we are working on curing maegan of a few of her habits, be that that they are bad or just not good..whatever. so she's now napping in her room for the 3rd day in a row without a gate on her door, and her door is shut! I am soooo happy to not have to deal with that gate anymore because it's getting dang hard for me to step over it! :) And I really like her door to be shut for safety purposes and for the fact that baby sister is coming and any way we can help block the noise from maegan is a good thing. The 2nd habit we are tackling is maegan's night waking. The first night went well, the 2nd did not. She was up last night from 3-430 am, wanting to come into our bed. She's such a stubborn little bugger, and finally quite fighting and went back to sleep until 8am. I don't look forward to tonight, but i do know that this 'moving to mommy's bed in the middle of the night' thing has to stop. Not that i don't love having her in there (hey, she kicks ryan not me!) but i'm pretty sure baby sister will be sleeping in there and having two in bed is a huge co-sleeping no no.
The 3rd habit to be addressed is her cup of milk in bed, but for now that stays. Until we are firmly away from the other habits, that is :)
Maegan and I went with Laura and Jaden to the Festival of Trees parade today! Mae began the excursion with a full-fledged freak out over having to ride in Laura's car, but we just toughed it out and made it down there. She enjoyed the parade I think. She wasn't like crazy over it but she did enjoy saying bye bye to all the stuff that went by us. And getting her in the car for the ride home was a piece of cake! She was VERY pleasant and Laura and I held our breath for awhile, not believing how well she did! I love Laura for being such a trooper. Maegan's fits can be so scary to an outsider- hell they're frightening to me! But I knew that this was just something I was going to have to kind of push her through, and she did great!
Tonight Ellie and Lindsay are coming over to play! I will make sure to take some pics of all the girls together, for a certain grandma :)

11.15.05

Phew! We're back...i hope! The tummy bug knocked me out starting saturday, and unlike Maegan who recovered in all of 9 hours, Mommy took more like 3 days! Guess it hit me a little harder being 32 weeks pregnant and all. (That means only 7 weeks left, oh my God!)
Yesterday was our second Parent's As Teachers visit. Maegan had a blast! She remembered Miss Melissa right away and was showing her the collages we've made since the last time Melissa was here. When Melissa sat down with her bag of goodies, Maegan plopped down right in front of her and was ready to play! The first game they did involved those little plastic bears they use in preschools. Maegan had to sort them by color into cups that matched the color of the bears. She did it perfectly the first time! Then we played a game with the bears where there was 5 index cards with colored dots on them (all yellow on one card, all red on another, etc) and we had to reach into a bag, pull out a bear and put it on the right color. She did perfectly on this game too! A couple times she'd put one down on the wrong spot and then pick it right back up and put it down right. And she did an excellent job taking turns, no problems at all! She got really into saying "Melissa's turn!" "My turn!" "Mommy's turn!"
After that we played a game of matching socks. She was feeling a bit silly during this game so it didn't last long but she did well :) And the last game she had to choose a card, and then sort it into "doggie, car, or baby." Another great game for her! It's so awesome to see her do these things she's never done before, and do them so well!!! I had to hide my hormonal mommy tears a few times; I just get so blown away by how smart she is and the things she knows without being taught.
After Melissa left Mae was an absolute angel all day long; mommy wasn't feeling well so I spent a good part of the day laying down. She took a nice afternoon nap and then had to go for the 2nd part of her flu shot. She was very brave and only cried jsut after she got the shot, but then i pulled out her blue sucker and she was a happy camper again :)
Melissa reminded me the Festival of Trees parade is on Saturday, so I'm really excited about taking Maegan to that! I've never been to it, but i've watched it on TV a lot, and they have these big balloons and it's the official kickoff of Christmas, even if it is a week before Thanksgiving :)
Ok, I'd better run. Time for school/work!

here she is, 31 weeks:
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Not too much change from 2 weeks ago, other than it appears she's sitting higher again which explains the return of the horrid heartburn.

Not much to report today, Maegan just had a lovely poo that went all over the carpet, the last of the sicky bugs leaving her body i suppose. Sunday is Daddy's birthday so we've been practicing saying "Happy Birthday Daddy!" She still says "Happy Birthday Grandma!" since that's the first one she learned and is having a hard time breaking that habit! So most of the time it's "Happy Birthday Beema...Daddy!"
She's making a collage right now, her 2nd one of the day. I'll take a picture and post them next time i write, they're quite exquisite.

11.10.05

puke!
Maegan puked all day long yesterday. Luckily I wasn't in my normal rush to get out of the house first thing in the morning to get all of our errands done. Instead i cleaned the house and then finally jumped in the shower at 9:45. Maegan was lying in my bed (freshly made of course, white blanket on top.) She had quasi-puked before breakfast, but it was just saliva and i thought it was because she had her fingers jammed all the way into her mouth (a new habit?) She's been doing this a lot lately. After my shower I noticed she had the hiccups for the 3rd time that morning and had a feeling things weren't going well...not two minutes later she tossed her cookies all over my bed.
She proceeded to get sick 6 more times over the course of the next 6 hours...poor girl. She was okay at first but then got royally pissed when the dry heaves came. I knew every time she was going to get sick because she'd say "MOMMY MOMMY!!!" and want me to pick her up. And then right before she heaved it was "ALL DONE ALL DONE!!!" Like, "NOOOOO I THOUGHT I WAS DONE WITH THIS!!!" poor girl :( She would then scream and thrash about while she dry-heaved, she is not a happy puker that's for sure. She's got a good grasp now on the words "sick" and "toilet" and used them a lot yesterday. She would say "mommy sick" and then i'd walk her into the bathroom and she'd spit in the toilet and then want to wash her hands :)
I found that this was great practice for having a newborn again...it's been a long time since i just sat around all day and watched my baby. And while I didn't like seeing her so sick, it sure did make me excited of what's to come in about 8 weeks :)
She's been very good last night and today. Back to normal! I kept her home from school, 24 hour rule. She'll be very relieved when she finally gets to have some milk, denying her her morning milk was pretty painful. Her tantrums lately have turned a bit more dramatic. She now uses this low, raspy sound when she's really upset. Kind of like when you growl from the back of your throat like an animal would do? She's incorporated that into her tantrums. It's pretty funny, i don't know where she got it but I have to cover my mouth to keep myself from laughing when she's throwing a fit now. Which is good in two ways- i'm too busy laughing to let her tantrums get to me, and it gives me a good chuckle.

Always the queen of the cheezy smile:

Trying to create her own bidet:
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

gosh i hope i spelled "bidet" right.

Well, it's 4:09 pm and Maegan just fell asleep. I laid her down at 1:30! She was so tired but sat there and talked to herself, very loudly, for 2.5 hours. She is the master of naptime=playtime. She's restarted the whole "strip down naked and then yell 'uh-oh mommy' after i'm tired of being naked" thing. I thought we were past it but no. She's probably stripped down oh, say 15 times in the last 4 days. No poopy messes yet but....i'm sure they're soon to come.

Let's see, what's new... I picked up this shirt for the princess today at Old Navy. It is red, has a little Santa on it and says "I've been (sorta) good all year." ha! Perfect for Maegan.
She had a great time at school today. They colored a turkey and she used more than one color, which is huge for her. There's probably 5 or 6 different colors on this turkey! Lately she talks about "Stacy's car" when we leave school. I don't know if it's "Chase's car" or "chase cars" or what she's talking about. There is a Chase in her class, but who knows. She also frequently talks about "hit table" seems to eat "corn" everyday for lunch. She's adopted her backpack as her school security blanket. Since day one she hasn't let me hang it up when we get there, she keeps it on. Well now it's turned into blanket and jacket. So I try to take her jacket off and she yells, so it stays on. It gives Miss Amy and I a good chuckle.
Hallie and I took her to Iowa City on Saturday while Ryan was at the Iowa game. She had a lot of fun playing at the mall play area for nearly 40 minutes. When we used to live there she'd play for 5 minutes tops and then would be done so it was pretty shocking to see her play for so long! Hallie and I also noticed she not even once looked for us! I think school has been so good for her, she's definitely become more of an active play-er. After the play area we made our way down to the children's museum and she played grocery store with Hallie. She told me repeatedly to "weave" but i'm pretty sure meant to say "leave" so i bowed out and gave her some auntie time.

Nothing new with baby girl #2. She was freakishly active yesterday and today after lunch. Like, my belly was convulsing. I want to try and capture it on video because it's quite remarkable.

11.2.05

hi guys! I've stolen my mommy's computer since she doesn't seem to be very good at updating this thing, at least not enough for me! I watch her type all the time so I figured i could handle this.
This weekend my cousin Ellie and I went to see the Wiggles! Our mommies took us and it was so much fun. I was very scared at first when i saw the stage and all the seats. My mommy had to carry me (kicking and screaming) to our seats but then i settled down after she told me it would be all right. Ellie and I got these cool Wiggles light sticks and we love them, so we played with them until the show started. Ellie got a little scared when the Wiggles came out so her mommy had to take her further away from them. I was very nervous but i just sat there and watched them. After awhile I felt okay and went down and danced! My mommy was so happy :) Here are a couple pictures of me- the first one is when we first sat down and the 2nd one is me looking "concerned" mommy says. The third one is me dancing!

The day after the Wiggles concert was my great-grandma's 90th birthday! We went to mass with the whole family and sang happy birthday there! Here is a pic of me, my grandmas, and my cousins:
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Then we went trick or treating that night after great-grandma's party. I was a doggy but didn't like going to stranger's houses very much. I only went to 5 houses but that was enough! Mommy says she's glad i didn't bring home any more candy.

Today I took my mommy to the doctor. She is 30 weeks pregnant and the doctor said today we'll schedule her surgery for right after the new year. She told me she's packing on the pounds but that she did that with me too and it'll be okay :) The doctor said she's very healthy and everything looks wonderful. My baby sister has been kicking a lot, mommy thinks we're going to have another gymnast in the house.
My new favorite pasttime is watching old videos of myself on the computer. I like to watch certain ones over and over again, because they make me laugh! Mommy is helping me learn how to ask for things "nicely." She says that word to me about a billion times every day. I'm working on it :) I have very good manners most of the time, i love to say "thank you" and "you're welcome" but i have to work on the magic word, my mommy calls it.
Tomorrow I'm going to my first Hawkeye basketball game! Daddy says we have really good seats so mommy is nervous because that means a lot of steps to chase maegan up and down. Good thing Daddy and Aunt Hallie will be there to help! I just hope I'm not scared at the game.
Ok, i'm starting to get upset because this is taking too long to type and we're not watching old videos of myself so i better stop writing here. Thanks for letting me update you!

She's definitely growing!

Everything is great here. Maegan is currently watching her favorite "Finding Nemo" while Daddy finishes dethatching the lawn and Mommy updates the blog. I passed my glucose tolerance test this week, so thank God no diabetes here! We do believe we've picked a name for the little one...we'll see if we stick with it :) It's hard to believe that just next week I start my 3rd trimester- everyone told me the 2nd pregnancy goes much faster but WHOA. It goes extremely fast! Which is just fine because i can't wait to meet her!
Maegan had her first Parents As Teachers session this week and it went great! Miss Melissa seemed very happy with Maegan's color and shape knowledge and Maegan seemed very happy that Miss Melissa comes loaded down with toys and activities to do! They made a very neat collage with contact paper and all sorts of little shapes, feathers, sequins, etc. I think we're going to get lots of good ideas from Miss Melissa!

9/26/05

hello and welcome to the world of the Dolan Girls! We will be using this site for all things dolangirl-related so please bookmark us :) Our old website was well...old...so here is our new space on the web.
Today Dolan girl #1 (that being Maegan) is 2 years, 2 months and 24 days old. Dolan girl #2 (that one being unnamed so far) still is in the negatives, so we'll give her a countdown of approximately 14 weeks left gestationally. I have no idea if that is worded right, but oh well!

Maegan and Mommy went to the mall today, to accomplish the difficult task of getting Maegan's 2 year pictures taken. This being their 3rd attempt, Mommy was quite anxious. Maegan isn't much into getting herself professionally photographed. Never has been! But we got the job done, and here are the results:
Image hosted by Photobucket.com Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Not too shabby!

Maegan is still the same little spitfire she always was. Her latest vocabulary development is "my turn." She seems to use it in the funniest of ways, though. It's more of a "on my terms" rather than "my turn." For example, when I asked her today if I could check her diaper to see if she had pooped she said, "No Mommy, my turn."
:)
Maegan has recently become quite clingy and possessive of her parents, but we recognize this as normal and are eating it up! Maegan hasn't always been the cuddliest of creatures. :)
She is currently in Mother's Day Out preschool on Tuesdays and Thursdays, which i do believe she's growing to love! She now can walk in (alright, well mommy carries her in but she does let me set her down once we walk in the door!) and then can kiss me goodbye like the brave little girl that she is. We also take an art class with Grandma Kathy and Ellie, but i can't claim that Mae is a huge art-lover. She much prefers to run around the room and distract all the other good little art-doers.
The other Dolan girl is doing just fine! The end of this pregnancy will be here before we know it, I suppose that's a huge advantage of being pregnant during the fall and Christmas season. She seems to be a very active little girl, which is nice and reassuring for the nervous mommy. We are in heavy name discussion; this is no easy task for us. And unfortuntaly Maegan is no help. She'd probably name her "Nemo" if we'd let her :P
Thanks for checking in on our girls! I will update whenever we have something to share.
