Yesterday was Maegan's first school conference! It went really well. Just as we thought, she has made great growth since starting school, and while she's not the class wizard, she is right where she should be. She is making great strides at writing the letters in her name, and her self portrait has improved by leaps and bounds since September! She's now identifiable as a human :) Miss Klopp says Maegan prefers to work/play on her own, but will also join groups and interact with them. She doesn't cling to any one kid, but does interact when she is around other kids. In the next year we will watch to see how she does to determine whether she will join kindergarten in 2008 or have a year of pre-k and then join kindergarten in 2009. Miss Klopp says that many kids with summer birthdays take the pre-k route; she currently has 11 kids in her pre-k class that have summer birthdays like Maegan. She also pointed out that Catholic schools are basically a year ahead academically, so often pre-k is a wise choice.
We made a trip to the doctor today to find out that Maegan has a nasty eczema outbreak. She has it all over her tummy, back and neck. Thankfully it doesnt bother her, but for the next two weeks I will be applying lotion and cortisone pretty much all day long, so if you dont hear from me, that's why. I dont see how I will have time to do anything but apply lotion to her, as she needs one kind 3 times per day and the other kind 2 times per day.
Anna-Kate, the former sweet angel, is now a rambunctious one year old! She is becoming more and more like her older sister every day; she's a bit of a daredevil, likes to climb and is quite loud. We remember fondly the days when she was immobile and quiet :) She had an evaluation with our Parent's as Teachers coordinator today which she did very well at! She had perfect to near-perfect scores in gross motor, fine motor, personal-social and problem solving categories, and an average score in communication.
She's a bottomless pit as far as food goes, as long as it's anything besides veggies. I can't get the girl to eat a single veggie, so if anyone has any tips, please share! However, she can down an entire banana in less than a minute. She's currently cutting her 5th tooth, and appears to possibly have several more on the way. At her one year appointment she was 20 lbs 14 oz, and 28 inches. She is 50th%tile for weight and 25th%tile for height. Don't worry, she's still sporting the too-large Dolan head :) It's in the 90th%tile. She had her one year potraits done yesterday, and I look forward to getting them back, so I can share hers and Maegan's 1 year photos together, they are amazing.
